Gypsy Woman

Hands down the best show I have seen yet this year. I would have gone to see DJ Rich Medina on his own but then to have him open for Little Dragon, perfection. At one point he played 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover into What Can You Bring Me by Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band...and then there was Little Dragon...

I broke up with Facebook...

and it really seemed to polarize my friends, much like the new Jay & Kanye album Watch The Throne. I had friends who were supportive of my decision, others who were downright outraged and a few who asked how will they cyber-stalk me now (thank you to those few for revealing your creepyiness on my FB wall)

The thing is I still exist in real life as a real girl. So while I may not be privy to you discussing your relationship woes on Facebook, or sharing pictures of your kid's doing absolutely nothing, or get invited to your event that is happening in Singapore and which will feature the musical stylings of Drake who makes me want to pull out my eyelashes one by one...I am very much alive and well. If you just want to keep up with digitally I have this snazzy blog or you can follow me on twitter @danabartle.

As for Watch The Throne my entire album review can be summed up as Meh. The video on the other hand is a splash more meh only because really all they do is have enough money to destroy a car, rap in front of a giant American Flag, drive the new and improved car without doors (and seatbelts I might add, although the four chicks in the back are strapped in), it shoots fire, Jay Z apparently has metal fingers since his fingers produce flames as he drags them beside the car. There is also a cameo of Aziz Ansari dancing like an awkward white dude, and more fire. But Otis Redding is great.

Little Dragon

I am medium obsessed with the band Little Dragon...ok Medium to High...and I finally get to see them next Tuesday at Music Hall of Williamsburg. If you are not familiar with their music you can actually listen to their new album in it's entirety at NPR Music I love NPR. I listen to it every day. I listen to All Songs Considered all day long after totally bumming myself out listening to NPR news and generally watching us wash our country down the toilet (but yes that's another story)

This is one of my favorite videos of theirs, but honestly, it's only a sample of just how great they are...

Brooklyn Bowl sings the National Anthem

Yesterday a group of us from Brooklyn Bowl sang the National Anthem at the Brooklyn Cyclones game (they are our minor local minor league team) Afterwards we all rode the Cyclone. It was a pretty perfect day.

But tonight I get to see Company Flow resurrected for the first time since 2001. Can't wait!

Carlos

I watched the first part of Olivier Assayas' 5 1/2 hour film Carlos last night and it was incredible! All three parts are on Netflix watch instantly. It got a standing ovation at Cannes and was considered the most loved film of last year's festival

Shakin All Over Under Sideways Down!

we went to Home Sweet Home last night for Paloma's birthday celebration and danced to some of the best rare soul I have heard in a long time. It reminded me of the Saturday Night Fish Fry that Stuart from Soul Jazz hosts in London

Searching...

I am excited that my first concert of 2011 will be Roy Ayers. I saw him once before at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London, back in 2005 and he blew me away...
